"In the sign of the fathers" speaks of the story of friendship between two peers, Guglielmina Roncigli, daughter of one of the 40 civilian victims of the Nazi retaliation in Gubbio in June 1944, and Peter Staudacher, son of the Nazi official doctor killed in Gubbio two days before the retaliation. The story Their meeting, 60 years after the tragedy, was completely random. The result was a friendship cultivated with an exchange of letters from 2004 to 2012, during which they met only once, in Pomezia, at the German Military Cemetery, where Peter's father, Kurt Staudacher, is buried.
A story that brought the two protagonists together, in the spirit of sharing, reconciliation and human solidarity. With a message of great relevance: overcoming the walls of resentment and rancor, to find in the common sharing of pain but also of reconciliation, the reasons to look to the future with hope and the desire for brotherhood. An example that is also a legacy for young people and for the new Europe.
The protagonists Guglielmina Roncigli died prematurely in February 2012 leaving the entire correspondence to the journalist Giacomo Marinelli Andreoli, director of Trg network, who then edited the novel, his first book published by Marsilio, which he already received great critical and public success (it was the most sold book in 2017 in Umbria after just two since its release) with numerous presentations in the region and in schools, and reviews on local and national newspapers. Peter Staudacher, still living in Gardelegen, Saxony, is 73 years old and will be present in Rome on Tuesday 13 June with his family. Once again he will meet Franca V automatically, daughter of Guglielmina, whom she met a few years ago, and for the first time will also meet the Association of 40 martyrs of Gubbio.
